1. Have you personally read H.R. 3200 (titled “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009”), all 1,018 pages? What’s your favorite part?
2. Will members of Congress be covered by the president’s plan – in other words, will you be covered? Is it fair to force on the American people a program from which you will be exempted?
3. Do you know the number of entitlement programs created or expanded under H.R. 3200? Do you know the number of additional bureaus, commissions, offices, programs and bureaucracies the bill sets up? (Answer: 32 and 53, respectively.)
4. Do you know what % of Americans oppose the plan? (A Wall Street Journal/NBC News Poll showed 42% oppose and 36% support the president’s plan.)
5. Do you know what percentage of Americans are pleased with their current health-care coverage? (According to an October 2006 ABC News/USA Today Poll, 89% of Americans are satisfied with their own personal health care.)
6. In testimony before the Senate Budget Committee, the director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said the president’s plan would not reduce health care costs, but would add to the burden. Do you agree with that assessment? If not, why not?
7. Are you aware of the disaster of government-controlled health care in Canada and the United Kingdom? Can you assure voters in your district that the Canadian/British experience won’t happen here?
8. Have you considered the likelihood that the president’s plan will lead to rationing? Are you prepared to assure seniors that it won’t? Do you think it’s right to deny critical procedures and medication to those above a certain age?
9. The president’s plan mandates abortion coverage and doesn’t contain a conscience clause for care-givers. Do you think it’s fair to force the American people to pay for killing unborn children? Do you think its right to compel medical personnel to participate in a procedure they find abhorrent.
10. By some estimates, the president’s plan will add as much as $ 1.6 trillion to the deficit in the first year — and $ 17 trillion in the next 10 years. Can our children and grandchildren live with that? Won’t it lead to hyper-inflation?
11. Washington can’t deliver the mail on time and ruined the mortgage market by forcing sub-prime mortgages on lenders. Is such a government capable of running our health care system? If government can’t manage the $1 billion cash-for-clunkers program, how can it manage one-sixth of the U.S. economy?
12. With unemployment at 9.5%, is it wise to impose new taxes on American business to pay for the president’s plan? What will the economic impact be?
